Twelve OIS students participated in the Junior Qualifiers for the World Mathematics Championships hosted by ISHCMC, Ho Chi Minh City. We were the only participating school from India! It is an international Math team competition that is knowledge intensive, strategy focused and depends on creativity.
· Grade 8 students Arya took home three medals in Creativity, Strategy, and Challenge. Arya also was the winner of the duel round - represented India!! · Three students Arya, Ritvik Sood, and Dev Shah get Golden Tickets (qualify) for the World Championships. Message from Ms. Shradha Nayak - Math Department We are overjoyed by the success achieved by our students. We witnessed the absolute passion and how teamwork blended complementary strengths and promoted a wider sense of ownership. Students demonstrated exemplary creativity and flexibility, two domains that students usually have a challenge within the math classroom. The credit absolutely goes to our great students but it is appropriate to mention here that choosing the right strategy is very critical to provide direction that will facilitate independent learning for the students. This is also a testimony to the transformation in the approach to problem solve that MYP inquiry is bringing about. Our next project is to involve these students in inspiring younger ones to develop visible thinking and encourage active processing. Comments are closed.
