Innovation for Olympic Success Talk on April 4, 3:00-4:00, OIS Board Room (open to parents and students)
 
Dr David James is the Director of the Center for Sports Engineering Research, Sheffield Hallam University, UK. His research center focuses on developing technologies that provide athletes with information and equipment to enhance their performance and safety. David’s team delivered 61 performance analytics projects to 10 different sports at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. These technological innovations directly supported Team GB athletes to win 42 medals.
 
In this lecture, Dr David James will explore the impact of technology on sporting performance and describe how technological innovations have been responsible for establishing many of the key periods in the history of sport. Sports enthusiasts want to see exceptional performances from the world's best athletes, and yet we are often uneasy when records are broken, fearing that it is artificial aids, and not the athlete's individual effort that accounts for the achievement. Dr David James will navigate the moral maze of performance enhancement and consider the wider societal benefits of sports science and technology.

OIS will host a university fair of 20 Indian universities this Thursday evening.  I still have seats available so I have opened it up to interested students and parents in grades 8-12. The format will be a brief (2-3 minute presentation) by each uni and then a uni fair where you will have the chance to chat with the uni reps. Please sign up to attend (https://goo.gl/forms/WgdAwL0FREKNOE7B3).

Considering Australia for uni?  Come talk to a representative who will fill you in on Australia in general as well as QUT in particular.  If interested in attending, please email tiffany.goulet@oberoi-is.org (parents) or sign up in Room 608 (students) by March 21.

So far we have a group of Indian universities visiting (ISBF, OP Jindal, Ashoka, Shiv Nadar, FLAME, NMIMS, UBS, Raffles, Broward, Global Pathways, Bennett, ISDI, ISME, WPP) and more are being added each day. The format will be a brief (2-3 minute presentation) by each uni and then a uni fair.  Please sign up to attend (https://goo.gl/forms/WgdAwL0FREKNOE7B3); space is limited to first 400 people so please only sign up if you are serious about attending.
