In Language and Literature the Grade 7 students have been working on creating documentaries. The aim was to create a detailed documentary with storytelling, interviews and facts about a prescribed topic. To achieve this it required the students to take on different roles e.g. journalist, scriptwriter, film producer and film editor. In addition the students needed to develop the following Approaches to Learning skills of:
Creativity and Innovation:
Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.
Communication and Collaboration:
Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.
Research and Information Fluency: Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.
Grade 6 students were detectives for a day and they had to solve a crime.
A body was found in an abandoned house with a suicide letter. Everything was very suspicious and there were some doubts whether it was suicide or murder. The letter was the most suspicious piece of evidence and the pen was not found in the crime scene. The students believed the killer still had the pen. They collected a piece of evidence from the letter and compared the ink with the ink of the pens belonging to the suspects. For that, students used the chromatography technique, which is a technique that is used to separate mixtures. Comparing the ink of the letter with the ink of the suspects, they found the assassin!
The 2018/2019 academic year has been an exciting one for MYP at JVLR, to date. We welcomed 77 foundation students along with a staff of 17 on day one. Students very quickly embraced the MYP philosophy in all areas of their school life. As one school (OIS) two campuses (JVLR and OGC) we have been fortunate to implement the well developed curriculum from OGC across all 8 subject areas, with some adjustments to meet student needs. In February we received confirmation that we are officially a candidate school for IB MYP and are already making excellent progress towards becoming authorised.
The intention of this blog is to 'celebrate' our learning and to share this with our community. We look forward to you visiting often.
In the week January 27th - February 1st, all grades were involved in trip week.
- Grade 6's (and some Grade 7 students) visited Ranthambore.
- Grade 8's visited Rishikesh
- AND the students who remained at school visited Dharavi.
The students embraced their new learning with many trying new challenges. They demonstrated resilience and overcoming obstacles.
