Parents of children in Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3 and Grade 4 are invited to join me and members of my World Language team to a learning conversation which focuses on our thinking around learning world languages in the PYP.  This session will give us time to reflect on the reasons we learn another language, and will give us insights into the Hindi, Spanish and French classrooms.
[A link to the sign up sheet will be sent through the daily notices.]

The April Cafè Conversation will be on the theme of how we support learning through technology.

Student Led Conferences
Thursday March 07
(No school for children on this day)

In order for your son/daughter to gain the best from their conferences scheduled for Thursday March 07, 2019, it is important that you have an understanding of the format we use at OIS for Student Led Conferences, this is detailed below.

Student Led Conferences:
Student Led Conferences involve the student and their parents. Students showcase their learning and understanding with their parents. The students are responsible for reflecting upon work samples they have chosen to share, that have been selected with guidance and support from the teachers. The learning conversation you and your child will have is very individual and for this reason no siblings will be accommodated for in a conference. We ask that you take advantage of the drop-in child care available on that day for children who attend our school and that you make alternative arrangements for your pre-schoolers.

All of the participants must understand the format and their roles prior to the conference. The format may differ depending on the age of the child.

The role of the Student is to be on time, stick to talking about the prepared work and to speak clearly.
The Parent’s role is to be on time for the conference, be positive, concerned and interested, to ask questions (question prompts will be available should they be required) and to listen.
The role of the Teacher is to facilitate the conference.

Your home room teacher will post on your class blog the organisation for the day in your grade.

Bookings will open in the last week of February, further information about booking your 45 minute student-led conference will follow. As always the staff are available to talk through any queries you may have regarding the progress and development of your children and I would ask, that should you wish to talk about any issues you may have, that you contact the office to make an appointment with the class teacher, rather than raise these in front of the children at their conference.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.
