Tony Batchelor ![]() Student Led Conferences (SKG - Grade 5) Thursday March 04 (also 14:00 - 16:00 on Wednesday March 03 and Friday March 05) Dear Parents I am sure you will have noted from the School Calendar that we are coming up to our Student Led Conferences, there will be no school for students on March 04. In order for your son/daughter to gain the best from their conferences it is important that you have an understanding of the format we use at OIS for Student Led Conferences, this is detailed below. Student Led Conferences: Student Led Conferences involve the student and their parents. Students showcase their learning and understanding with their parents. The students are responsible for reflecting upon work samples they have chosen to share, that have been selected with guidance and support from the teachers. The learning conversation you and your child will have is very individual and for this reason please can you find a space in your home where other siblings will not detract from your child’s conference with you. All of the participants should understand the format and their roles prior to the conference. The format may differ depending on the age of the child. The role of the Student is to be on time, stick to talking about the prepared work and to speak clearly. The Parent’s role is to be on time for the conference, be positive, concerned and interested, to ask questions (question prompts will be available should they be required) and to listen. The role of the Teacher is to facilitate the conference. Bookings will open in the last week of February, further information about booking your 20 minute student-led conference will follow. As always the staff are available to talk through any queries you may have regarding the progress and development of your children and I would ask, that should you wish to talk about any issues you may have, that you contact the homeroom teacher to make an appointment with the class teacher, rather than raise these in front of the children at their conference. On this occasion you will not have the opportunity to meet with the single subject teachers; you will however be able to meet them during the meetings scheduled for April 14, 15 and 16 (you will receive more information on these closer to the time). Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.
