Dear Parents
(End of Year Letter #2) This last week of our academic year is one in which we start thinking about the next school year. There are a couple of organisational changes you will notice on your return. Merging of the two divisions This year the junior school had two distinct divisions – Early Years and Primary, next year with a change of name to ‘Primary’, the primary team will cover children from Nursery to Grade 5. The pedagogical leadership team for the primary school will be Mr Tony (Head of Primary), Ms Veena (Deputy Head of Division and PYP Coordinator) and Ms Vimi (PYP Coordinator). 8-day cycle This year the school ran a 6-day cycle/week. Next year we will run an 8-day cycle/week across the whole school. Collaboration This year we have continued to focus on the collaborative model of teaching and next year we will extend this, taking it to the next step. This will see teachers collaborating together with the children; teaching in a number of spaces, grouping the children in a flexible way to better meet the individual needs of the children, and teachers working across classes in order to provide a variety of learning experiences for your child. The reality for you as parents will not be too different. You will still have a contact homeroom teacher to talk with as you do this year, one who knows your child well and who is responsible for their well-being. For the children they will find a teaching and learning programme better suited to their needs, a number of teachers responsible for the children’s learning and they will continue to be grouped in large groups, small groups and will sometimes, like they do now, work one on one as required. Towards the end of August we have open mornings for parents to see our classrooms in action. Staff Farewells Tonight, as a staff we celebrate the year that was and look forward to our summer break. We will also farewell our staff who are leaving our school this year. Ten of our staff across Nursery – Grade 5 will not continue in our Garden City Campus, they will transfer to the JVLR campus to join the new team at the new campus. I am pleased to let you know that for next year we have a full complement of teachers and that our recruiting for this campus is now complete. I will introduce our new faculty to the parent community in the new academic year. Details of the first couple of days Whilst the faculty will be back at work in readiness for our 2017/2018 academic year on August 01, we welcome our children back to school on Monday August 07, 2017. A change of contact email address Next year the primary division will have two secretaries, Ms Perpetual and Ms Violet. They can be contacted through a common email address – primary.secretary@oberoi-is.org If you are requesting a leave for your child please email - primary.absence@oberoi-is.org Please watch out for other announcements which will come from the school prior to the start of the academic year such as bus details and school uniform distribution. To those of you leaving Oberoi International School on Thursday, I wish you well for the new opportunities you have ahead of you and to those returning safe travels if your are spending time away from Mumbai, and I look forward to welcoming you and your children back in August. Kindest regards Tony Dear Parents
Five more school days until we finish this school year and what a year it has been for us in the primary division. With a great deal of confidence I can say that your children have had a very good year; they have experienced many new things, their teachers have put your children and their learning needs to the forefront of their teaching and learning programmes, and above all the children have had fun learning. The Faculty have now finished writing their End of Year Reports, these are presently being uploaded and will be available for you to access online from Monday afternoon, June 05. You will receive an email from the school to inform you when and how you can access the reports on Monday. We advise you to download a copy of the report card at your earliest convenience. Parents will not have access to our student information system, MySchoolOne, after July 01. From next year we will be moving, and migrating all data to a new student information system. You will receive more information about this in the new academic year. Please note: Families leaving OIS this year will need to download their child's report cards before June 08, 2017 as the portal will be closed off to you after that date. We know we are nearing the end of our school year when we say farewell to our six classes of Grade 5 students as we did last Friday at a school reception held for them and their families. We will miss them around our primary school next year and do wish them all well as they start the next stage in their education journey. This morning I enjoyed the last in our series of class concerts and like you I am sure, I was amazed at the energy, the commitment of the children, the learning they gained and the entertainment they gave us for the hour they were on stage. I know too that behind the scenes parents have had a lot of input – hearing the lines, practicing dance moves, helping with costumes and getting time off from your work to support your children and for this I thank you all very much on behalf of your children. Please note that on Thursday of next week we end our 2016/2017 academic year and I would remind you that your children can be collected from their classrooms at 11:30 on that day. From 11:50 children may be collected from the Reception in the lobby. Finally watch out for a second letter from me next week when I will introduce some of the changes that your will notice in our division when you return in the new academic year. Kind regards Tony |
