from Dependence to Independence

This morning you will have noticed a change in the way we organise the movement of our children, in Primary, from the foyer to Floor 2  in readiness for class.

Due to the congestion in the main stairwell, we have introduced a much safer, and a quicker way to move our children up to the Primary Division when they arrive at school in the morning.
  • Grade 1 and Grade 2 line up as normal and at around 07:30 use the central staircase as they always have.
  • Grades 3, 4 and 5 now assemble at the back left of the foyer near the uniform room and at 07:30 take the back stairs.
  • Parents accompanying children still use the central staircase.
This morning the new plan worked very well and the children coped with this change with ease.

Part of our role in the Primary Division is to help and support our children to move towards being more independent in both their learning and in looking after themselves. We are very much about moving our children from being dependent on us to being more independent. You can, and do I know, support us in this area.
I would ask you to question whether it is necessary for you to see your children up onto the second level every morning and to consider that from time to time they move upstairs without you and your help. Thus you will be encouraging their independence.
I leave you with this thought.
