Professional Development in the Primary Division:
October
20 PYP Workshops for Teachers (American School of Bombay)

Some of our teachers and assistant teachers attended IB Primary Years Progamme training in the area of Maths, Science and Assessment. Professional Development is a very important component of our role as educators. We are continuously talking to each other about our current practice and best practice and from time to time outside facilitators run courses and workshops which our teachers attend. On November 18, 19 and 20, we hosted the DP workshops at Oberoi with over 400 educators from the Asia Pacific region meeting here to learn together.

21 Teaching EAL Students in Mainstream Classes

A number of our teachers have completed this course, a course very important for internationally minded teachers in international schools. This course runs across the year and this year we have more of our teachers participating in this course.

09 Reading Workshops

I have shared with you in previous blogs that one of our primary goals for this year is around reading and the teaching of reading in our division. To this end we have scheduled a series of workshops for our teachers in Grades 1-5. A facilitator is leading sessions with our teachers looking at the teaching of reading at OIS and the programme of reading in our classes.

18 Teachers Teaching Teachers

Some of the very best professional development is provided by the talented teachers we have in our primary division. While the children had a day off the teachers attended workshops and seminars run by their colleagues. Everything from 'Painting Indian Native Art', 'Using Video Analysis', 'Helping Students Become Activators and Drivers of their Own Learning' to 'French for Beginners', 'Making Reading Meaningful in the Classroom' and 'Increasing Engagement Time' being only 6 of the 69 sessions offered across the day.

Celebration is a core value of the school and recently we celebrated Diwali, Dussehra and Children's Day in India in our own special OIS way.

New Look Unit 2 Report

Unit 2 report ready to access on Tuesday.

You will notice a new look to the 'unit of inquiry' report this time. Having reviewed the purpose of the unit report - to provide parents with an overview of their child's progress through the unit - we hope you will find this format gives you all of the same information as before but in a much more user friendly way.
Unit 3 will be included in the much fuller Semester One report issued in January.
