From the Head of Primary
3 Way Conferences for SKG - Grade 5 Thursday October 26 (No school for children on this day) In order for your son/daughter to gain the best from their conferences scheduled for Thursday October 26, it is important that you have an understanding of the format that is outlined below. 3 Way Conferencing: 3 way conferences involve the student, parent and teacher. Students discuss their learning and understanding with their parents and teacher, who are both responsible for supporting the student through this process. Students are responsible for reflecting upon work samples they have chosen to share, that have been selected with guidance and support from the teacher. The student, parents and teacher collaborate to establish and identify the student’s strengths and areas for improvement. This may lead to setting of new goals, with all determining how they can support the achievement of these goals. All of the participants must understand the format and their roles prior to the conference. The format may differ depending on the age of the child. The role of the Student is to be on time, stick to talking about the prepared work and to speak clearly. The Parent’s role is to be on time for the conference, be positive, concerned and interested, to ask questions and to listen. Parent prompts will be available for parents who would like these. The role of the Teacher is to manage the time, facilitate the conference, provide probing questions and highlight achievements and to clarify where necessary. I am sure that you will find this format valuable as we work together to help identify the next learning steps for your son/daughter. It is important that this conference focuses on the individual child and to this end please do not bring siblings into the conference with you. If siblings are not able to wait outside the classroom while you are in the interview then please take advantage of the drop in spaces where our staff will be happy to supervise school age children. As always the staff are available to talk through any queries you may have regarding the progress and development of your children and I would ask, that should you wish to discuss any issues you may have, that you contact the office to make an appointment with the class teacher, rather than raise these in front of the children at their conference. Instructions for booking an interview time will be sent soon via the school’s daily announcements. Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.
