Dear Parents, Friends and Families,
If I have not seen you yet this year, 'Happy New Year', and good health for the upcoming year. We have been very busy at JVLR over the last few months. Just before the break, students wrote thank you cards to our non-teaching staff and delivered them to each of the members of our team. A 'Shoe Box Drive' took place and Grade 4 students organised the collection of different items for St.Catherine's orphanage, following this, as you see from the video, they went to the orphanage to deliver the boxes. The wonderful PTA @ JVLR organised a Winter Carnival for our students and during the last week of school in 2017, smiling faces were had all around. As we start 2018, we have many things going on already. For the last few weeks of January, we will celebrate different aspects of 'World Read Aloud' day (which will fall on the 1st February). Some parents have signed up for class reading sessions in the Early Years to show off their reading talents and many learning experience will take place during this month. By the end of this month, reading webinars will be made available to parents to see what 'Read Alouds' look like in school and offer tips and advice on what parents can do at home. There is a lot of educational research to show that as a child reading everyday, for at least 15 minutes, either to yourself, to others or being read to, increases reading fluency and comprehension; Let's promote reading! http://readaloud.org. Remember, our doors are open for you to come and talk to us. Yours, Lisa Hughes Head of Primary, JVLR Campus Comments are closed.
