                      PYP Exhibition: The Process
                               Parents’ Report

Exhibition is the culminating, collaborative experience in the final year of the PYP. It is a process that gives students a chance to explore, document and share understanding of an issue/opportunity that is personally important

On November 28, 2019, a group of grade 5 students shared with their parents how they organize and document their learning. This was the first in a series of student sharing as part of the IBPYP Exhibition process.

Naisha, Sumukhi, Advita, Navya, Hrehaan, Amay, Ria, Aravh, Nivaan, Reya, Neil, Vedant, Kareena and Veer discussed Seesaw, Google Docs and slides and iTunes U. They explained to their parents how each of these applications helped them collaborate, organize and share their learning with their peers, teachers and parents.

Here’s what parents had to say about the different applications that students use.
  • The use Google Drive to upload documents and presentations.
  • They upload evidence of their work on Google Drive.
  • They click pictures of their learning and upload to Seesaw with comments.
  • They write their learning and have discussions on iTunes U.
  • They create folders for each subject and topics.

Here’s what parents had to say about why they share their learning using different technologies:
  • It’s a more efficient way to store and sort.
  • There’s engagement with the teacher and online feedback.
  • Documenting their learning this way helps them understand others’ views and perspectives.
  • They are becoming more exposed to technology.
  • They document their learning in this way because it keeps everything safe and can be accessed from any device.
  • It’s a connected way to learn.
  • Having online documentation means it’s visible to all and easy to share with teachers and others.
  • This helps them share learning with their parents.
  • It's peer learning.
  • Documenting their learning in this way helps them organize and gives reliable data which can be accessed when needed.
  • You can easily add comments on learning.
  • Students can share their learning across divisions.
  • Documenting their learning in this way gives evidence and justifications for their queries and reflections.

Here’s what parents had to say about how this will help students in the future.
  • Knowing how to document learning helps with organization.
  • Using these technologies allows them to be able to collaborate and share information easily in their future teams.
  • They can refer back to the material.
  • Using technology for documentation will help them collaborate, document and manage recording of their work in the future.
  • It allows them to better work in teams.
  • It’s a faster, collaborative and more reliable way of learning.
  • As technology is now and in the future, these students are at pace and up to date with what’s happening.
  • This is a great way to organize.
  • Because teacher feedback is recorded, students will be able to improve their performance in the future.

Appreciation from the parents:
  • All of the students were confident in showcasing their work.
  • They have a comfort level with technology.
  • Learners are taking ownership of their learning.
  • Very well-explained.
  • We got a good idea of how they are learning.
  • Totally impressed at their understanding of the different ways of documenting learning.
  • Clarity.
  • Good delivery as a team.
  • Tech-savvy.
  • Effort and thought put into the presentation.
  • Enthusiasm in their presentation.
  • Sincerity and confidence while presenting.
  • Students understand the concept and are able to use the tools well.
  • It seems so tough to be in their shoes. It’s harder than my work.

Great job on the first in our PYP Exhibition series. These students took the risk to be the first ones to present their learning to parents and can now help the other groups going through the process. Congratulations!
