Parent Teacher Meetings for Nursery and JKG
Friday September 21 (No school for children on this day) 3-way_conferences.pptx. The powerpoint link shows how we can work together to make 3Way Conferences successful for our SKG-Grade 5 students. For students to share their knowledge and understanding of how they are learning and goals that they have set for themselves can be quite stressful for some students. Together, home and school play an important role in making each student feel confident in sharing their own learning. Parents of children in Nursery and JKG will have parent teacher meetings. "These are designed to give the parents information about the student’s progress development and needs, and about the school’s programme. Teachers should take this opportunity to gather background information, to answer the parents’ questions, to address their concerns, and to help define their role in the learning process. The parents should take the opportunity to provide the teacher with the cultural context of the student’s learning.” [PYP Making It Happen] Parents of children in SKG – Grade 5 will have 3 Way Conferences. 3 Way Conferencing: 3 way conferences involve the student, the parent and the teacher. Students discuss their learning and goal setting with their parents and the point of contact teacher. Students are responsible for reflecting upon work samples they have chosen to share, that have been selected with guidance and support from the teacher. The student, parents and teacher collaborate to establish and identify the student’s strengths and areas for improvement. This may lead to setting of new goals, with all determining how they can support the achievement of these goals. All of the participants must understand the format and their roles prior to the conference. The format may differ depending on the age of the child. The role of the Student is to be on time, stick to talking about the prepared work and to speak clearly. The role of the Parent is to be on time for the conference, be positive, concerned and interested, to ask questions and to listen. Parent prompts will be available for parents who would like these. The role of the Teacher is to manage the time, facilitate the conference, provide probing questions and highlight achievements and to clarify where necessary. NB: On this day single subject teachers will not be meeting with parents. However, as always the staff are available to talk through any queries you may have regarding the progress and development of your children and I would ask, that should you wish to discuss any issues you may have, that you contact the office or the teacher directly, to make an appointment with the single subject teacher. Should you have a concern or query regarding your child in his/her homeroom, I would ask that you make an appointment to meet your point of contact teacher at another time, rather than raise these in front of the children at their conference. Instructions for booking an interview time will be sent soon via the school’s announcements. Lisa Hughes and Kristen Blum Comments are closed.
