Dear Parents,
As many of our returning parents are aware, one of our conferences that takes place at OIS are Student-led Conferences, this happens once a year. We have had to think very differently of how we do these conferences virtually. On Thursday, 4th March, our students will be leading you through their learning in our virtual student-led conferences (SLCs). The purpose of these conferences is to have our students share their perspective on their learning with you. Students will not attend classes on Thursday, 4th March. In preparation for the conference, teachers will be supporting students to select, reflect and plan what they would like to talk about in their conference. As IB learners, we will hope that students will be able to discuss learning holistically including the learner profile attributes, skills, action and international mindedness. Students can also share with you how they have adapted and changed throughout the year, during learning from home. The conferences are designed for students to show learner agency and to have voice, choice and ownership in sharing their learning. What will the conference look like: Each Grade will inform the parent community regarding how the SLCs will work. Students will either be given a chance to record their conference in the comfort of their own home and share it with the teacher via Google Drive or log into a Zoom link. The role of the teacher is to: Support students in the planning and sharing of their learning. To organise SLC as needed. The role of the student is to: Share their learning process with parents, guardians and teachers. The role of the parent or guardian is to: Support, listen to and ask your child/children questions about learning. To celebrate learning. Make an alternative meeting time if you have questions you need to ask the teacher or wait until the parent-teacher meetings which will be later in the year. Sample Parent questions:
