In this, their third year of competition, the High School Girls' football squad has participated in a number of 6,7 and 8 a-side tournaments across Mumbai, as they did last year. Results have been outstanding winning the Hirandani Foundation School U19s and the BD Somani U19s tournaments as well as finishing runners up at the Spandan(Lonavala) U18s and the BD Somani U16s tournament.
The Middle School players have also been highly successful, filling gaps in the U16s, the U18s and U19s squads, and winning the BD Somani U14s tournament and the B team taking the runners up spot. The biggest success story by far this season, has been in the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports School Girls tournament, where our U19 team was participating for the first time in a national 11-a-side competition. With our mighty leopards finishing as the second placed team in Mumbai, losing to the 2016-17 National Champions, Fr Agnel Multipurpose School, Vashi, there is a lot of hope for the future. Aahana Punjabi, the girls captain and Niyati Pragya finishing second in the competitions for Golden Boot (top scorer) and Golden Gloves (best goalkeeper with the most clean sheets) we were delighted that Anshita Pant picked up the Golden Ball award for best overall player. As coach, the most amazing thing about this team has been the sportsmanship, spirit and family-like support that the girls have given each other through the ups and downs of the season. The support of the MS squad for the HS squad and the big-sisterly mentoring of the HS girls for the MS girls has been quite moving at times. These are remarkable achievements considering the youthful make-up of our squad compared to the age, size and experience of many of our opponents and with our Leopardesses already reflecting on Thursday's performance in the final, I have already met with the senior players in the HS squad to look at how we can plan for the year ahead so that this year's cup run can be a launchpad for more girls' football success in the years to come. -Anthony Wright Deputy Head of Secondary
