'The Rose' & 'I dreamed a dream'

Last week at the HS Assembly, we were treated with some fantastic student performances. The recording isn't fantastic, but the performances definitely were :)

A visit from Arts University Bournemouth

The Secondary Art Department recently had a visit from two members of staff from the Arts University Bournemouth, England. Claire McIntyre and Amanda Evans gave two presentations on the Bespoke ‘Art and Design’ Summer Course run by AUB and currently planned for Grades 7 to 11 in June 2017.
They also provided the 10th and 12th Grade students with support in Art Portfolio Preparation for their future college and university applications.

An outdoor math function tranformation

A collaboration between IB1 Math HL & SL had students making functions and transforming them using their bodies and their position on giant cartesian axes. (Photos courtesy of Yogendrav & Shraddha)

Gr.7 Remote Controller Showcase

In Grade 7, our students worked on a project where they designed their own game controllers and made it functional using makey makey.
The different steps of the design cycle were seen and demonstrated clearly and each step was understood in depth by the students. Students worked on researching different game controllers, they performed a skit to showcase which game controller was the best, they also worked to understand a simple circuit since Makey Makey works on the concept of completing a circuit and in the end they went on to design their game controllers and made it using the different materials.
We culminated this unit with a showcase of the different game controllers in the library on 26th October 2016.
Here is a glimpse of a few students working on their project.

Astrotrek

High school Physics students went on an unique adventure and educational experience to Chail (Shimla) for ASTROTREK. The trip involved personal development challenges with science, astronomy and astrophotography.
During 5 days and 4 nights OIS Physics students had the opportunity to explore astronomy and science. We had access to modern high-tech equipment, such as the specialised Coronado Hydrogen-alpha telescope for solar astronomy, 8" Schmidt Cassegrain and refractor telescopes and a comprehensive range of digital astrophotography and accessory equipment. Additionally we were engaged in star trails, interactive presentations, Zip lining, practical experience using Newton’s laws, trajectories of falling bodies StormRocketry, Wall climbing, bridge building, and a Burma bridge adventure activity!
A truly remarkable learning experience for all of us.
